HDMI (Type-A) Connector Pinout

The 19-pin HDMI Type-A connector — TMDS video pairs, clock, DDC, CEC, and HPD.

Overview

HDMI Type-A is the standard 19-pin video/audio connector. Picture and sound travel over four shielded TMDS differential pairs (three data lanes + one clock). The remaining pins handle housekeeping: DDC (an I2C bus) for EDID, CEC for device control, +5V, and Hot Plug Detect.

The numbering interleaves signal and shield pins — each TMDS pair has its own shield pin between channels.

Notes

  • DDC (pins 15/16) is an I2C bus the source uses to read the display's EDID.
  • Mini (Type-C) and Micro (Type-D) HDMI carry the same 19 signals in a smaller shell.
