Mini DisplayPort Pinout

VESA's compact 20-pin DisplayPort connector with the same signals in a smaller shell.

Overview

Mini DisplayPort (mDP) carries the identical 20-pin DisplayPort signal set - four main-link lanes, an AUX channel, hot-plug, config, and DP_PWR - in a much smaller connector introduced by Apple and adopted by VESA. It is electrically compatible with full-size DisplayPort via a passive cable.

The physical pin numbering differs from the full-size connector: the lanes, AUX, config, and ground pins are interleaved differently in the smaller shell, though the signals are functionally the same. The same mechanical connector is also used by Thunderbolt 1 and 2.

Notes

  • Same signals as full-size DisplayPort but a different physical pin layout.
  • Mechanically identical to Thunderbolt 1/2 ports; sink-side reverses lane order.
